Western North Dakota contingent coming to Fargo

It’s been fun visiting and getting to know the folks in oil country hearing their concerns and ideas and finding common ground for ways to support each others needs.

I met Loren Hoffman the retired Parshall city auditor (now working with engineering firm AE2S) and asked him to come to Fargo to give his presentation on the successful water supply project that Parshall and the Three Affiliated Tribes have in place thanks to much work from Senator Dorgan.  It’s quite the story and demonstrates how important water management is for economic development throughout the state.

The Discovery Channel was in Parshall last winter to video the day to day life of our neighbors there documenting some of the effects of energy development for the area.  It will air in early 2011.  Here’s a older article about Parshall oil activity online

We’ll also be hearing from other leaders about the water needs for energy development in the Bakken.

The meeting is for anyone interested in learning more about water issues in western ND, particularly the oil patch.

The Renewable Energy and Conservation committee is hosting the presentation.  The committee looks for ways to make better use of resources and improve efficiency.  Members consist of various department heads for the city.  I’ve also invited area legislators along with other area leaders to  attend.

The presentation will be in the Commission room at 8 a.m. Thurs.  Nov. 4th for about 90 min.
